Be Careful With Your Freedom

I've been faithfully journalling in my Bible for the past few months and it has made me more focused during the message and I love that I can look back on things I have made notes on to reflect on them later in the week.

This week's message was on 1 Corinthians 8

Three things to take away from this chapter:

1. Love is Greater than Knowledge
"knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up (verse 1)

You can have all the head knowledge in the world but to think you know everything is wrong. You have the freedom to share what you know but you must do it with love.

2. There is only one God.
yet for us there is one God, the Father...(verse 6)

Anything that comes between us and God becomes an idol. We have the freedom of free will and can choose to place priorities as we choose but we are not free from the consequences of those choices. Our behaviour should draw others closer to God.

3. Remember Christ died for all the lost.
We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.....(verse 8)
Thus sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. (verse 12)

We are all lost. To think we are better than others because we sin differently than they do is wrong. If we know that a believer is struggling and we are not sympathetic to them we cause them to stumble. We need to come alongside people just as they need to come alongside us when we are weak. We need to examine our own lives, habits, and how we spent our time, energy, and money. Are we living like Christ died for us and paid for our sin? We have the freedom to choose to live like He did and are we?
