Grad Proofs

These arrived this week:

Honestly feels like we just got Kiandra's in the mail...

and now our second (and last) child is graduating from the high school that Conrad and I attended.

This pose my my favourite:

First cap and gown photos and in a few months she will walk across the stage in the real deal.

On Set!

This week, Kiandra submitted her headshot and was cast as a cheerleader for a movie being filmed here. She has minimal cheer experience from her times performing in the half time show of a football game but I guess it was enough. When she was asking around for "cheer shoes" she found out that a friend of hers was also going to be on set for the same thing. Last night Kiandra sent me this photo of the two of them in their cheer gear after their fitting and before their rehearsal for tomorrow's scene:

During the day yesterday, I happened to notice that they were still searching for "townsfolk" for the crowd at the basketball game that Kiandra was "cheering" at so I submitted my picture and was booked for today.

Kiandra and Courtney's call time was 10:00 and I dropped them off at "Jewel City high school" where this sign made it seem so different from where Kaden had his volleyball tournament a few months ago:

Seeing American flags everywhere was strange too. My call time wasn't until 12:15 so I got some breakfast and then arrived to wait with all the other crowd extras. I brought some books along to pass the time and it was pretty sweet to get paid to read. :)

Shooting last all day and long into the night. It was the same scene again, and again, and again. We cheered, we cheered, and we cheered some more. I wasn't able to be with Kiandra at all as she had a different holding room and during shooting times she was on the opposite side of the court.  But I did get some updates of her holding room:

I kept Conrad updated too sneaking a photo from set:

and then my section of stands was wrapped at 11:15pm and Kiandra and her friend were wrapped about an hour later.

It was a fun day and such an interesting experience to see all the details that go into filming a movie.  I can add this as my third movie extra experience to my "resume" and Kiandra has almost lost track of the times she has been on set. Set days are long days and by the time we got home it was after 1:00am. Good thing it is Spring Break!

Update: 40 Bags in 40 Days 2017

I'm still plugging away at this challenge:

My progress so far....

"Bag" 10: taking all the old kitchen cabinet doors to the Restore

Bag 11: cleaning out the pantry and the freezer

Bag 12, 13, and 14:
Clothing donations for a clothing exchange that my friend Andrea hosted. (and I only returned with 1 sweater!)

Bag 15 and 16

Bag 17, 18, 19, 20, 21
garbage, donations, donations, garbage, and recycling

"bag" 22: donations
bag 23: bedding donations

and no picture for "bag" 24 but Conrad recycled the last of the cardboard boxes from our renovation this evening.  They had been left out in the snow and made our backyard look like a dump and so it was good to get rid of that pile too.

and he also got rid of the old vanity and sink for "bag" 25...yup our backyard was a total junk yard this winter!

25 bags out and 15 to go!

Time Capsule Tuesday

When Kiandra was in Grade 5, her teacher had each student make a time capsule to open in the future. Kiandra made hers and her opening date was when she turned 20 and today she opened this up:

We opened it up to find all of this:

She thought she would be in school next year, in 5 years be able to drive a car, 10 years (now!) get married (eek...looks like a busy year ahead :) and in 15 years have a baby.

This caught my eye:

Not sure if Kiandra's 20 year old self still thinks of me as a role model but it's nice to know that her 10 year old self did.

Some things, obviously, had changed since Kiandra made this time capsule but it was surprising how much still was the same. Kiandra's easy going "embrace everything in life" attitude shines through. Her funny sense of humour and the things she found important then (God, her family, her friends, and having fun) are still her top priorities.

Now we just need to locate a cassette tape player to hear what she recorded on that tape....

That time...

I became a Mom to a 20 year old.

No longer a baby,
No longer a child,
No longer a teenager,

It's the same age I was when I got married. (I turned 20 on May 2 and got married on June 1)
and the same age I was when I had Kiandra (She was born March 27 and I turned 21 just 5 weeks later)

Somehow I thought I was a whole lot older at 20 years old than she seems right now... funny how that works.

Today we celebrated our newly 20 daughter with more shopping:
more pizza for lunch and then 1/2 price drinks at the grocery store:
and one more dinner out as a family at Ruby Tuesday

20 years old...

Kiandra bought these balloons as a photo prop and Kezia took pictures of her:

Our lives changed for the better 20 years ago. There is no one in the world quite like our joy filled, adventurous, and hilarious daughter. Happy 20th Birthday, Kiandra!

Then you go...

a few weeks ago, Kiandra said "you know what I want to do for my birthday?"

"I want to go to the States with the family"

When your daughter wants to spend her 20th birthday with the go to the States as a family. Now I realize that she probably just wanted us to pay ;) but still many 20 year olds WANT to spend time away with their fam?

So we went to Panera Bread for lunch:

and then shopping! The boys finished their shopping quickly and had lots of time leftover for snap chatting and trying out display furniture:

The girls found a smoking shoe sale and actually bought all of these:
(the cheapest pair was only $3.40)

Then we met up at Pizza Ranch with our friends who are off to Vegas to celebrate my friend Melanie's 40th birthday next month. Pizza Ranch is one of Kiandra's favs because it has her two favourite foods: Pizza and Ice Cream.

Then it was off to our hotel where I discovered a BIG error on my part :(

When Kiandra told me she wanted to go down to the States I found out I had enough expedia points to book a room for a smoking deal:

But I booked it for FEBRUARY 26-27 and so we didn't have any room booked for today. Thankfully, the hotel did have room but unfortunately I didn't get this price on the room.

I'm thankful for this time we could spend together.

Good Things

A surprise visit from Kiandra today when she dropped off a treat for me at lunch:

Leaving my classroom neat and organized and ready for April:
(and leaving the treats from students ready to enjoy when I get back after the break)

Arriving home to see that the fruit we ordered for a fundraiser had arrived:
(I see lots of baking in the future!)

Date night!

and the promise of a sleep in day tomorrow and for the rest of the week!!
