Still...it really is that simple

Today we had a staff inservice at a camp not too far from our school. The cabin we were assigned for a meeting was actually perfect for a day of social and emotional learning and mindfulness. Even just the break from our regular school meeting place just changed perspective:

One of our tasks was to plan and make lunch as a small group and eat together:

My group planned and made taco salad and smoothies:

Our last session of the day was a devotional from a former school parent. She spoke about 3 verses that we tend to learn as children but abandon as we get older and become more mature. However, she said that sometimes it's just those simple verses that can bring us back to what is truly important...to rest and be secure in Christ.

1. Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

To be mindful we need to have the chance to be still...oh how hard that is for me with a never ending to do list...oh how hard that is for my students who have packed extracurricular schedules...oh how hard that is for me as a mom with the never ending concern for my kids. But it is when we are still that we are able to see things more clearly.

2.  Cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

We do not need to carry our worries alone. We don't even have to carry the worries of others because God will carry those for us too when we lay them before Him. What a blessing to know that the heaviness of our worry is not ours alone to carry.

3.  You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

When we trust fully in God then we will find the stillness and the peace that passes all understanding. We need to be steadfast-unwavering-in our trust to experience this kind of peace.

Be still. Cast our worries on Him. Trust in God and have peace. Sounds simple....and maybe it is.
