Sparrows

I've heard this song on the radio a few times and the lyrics are awesome...not too many songs with the word "freaking" in them!

Kezia mentioned it to me the other day and said: "Mom, this should be your life theme song" and she's totally right.

I worry.
I worry about my kids.
I worry about their future spouses.
I worry about their adventures.
I worry about the Skype interview request that Kiandra got today (!!)
I worry about the direction their lives will take.
I worry about their faith and their ability to stand strong.
I worry about lots of things.

But as the song says:
You can't add a single day by worrying
You'll worry your life away
Oh don't worry your life away
You can't change a single thing by freaking out
It's just gonna close you in
Oh don't let the trouble win
You may feel alone
But you're not on your own
If He can hold the world He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh even the sparrow
Knows He holds tomorrow
Lean in and it's hard to miss
Everything can change
When you make it His
Oh He wants to carry it
Carefree in the care of God
When you let it go
You'll find that He's enough
Oh you never leave His love
You don't walk alone
If He can hold the world He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh even the sparrow
Knows He holds tomorrow
There's not a single star that's out of place
There's nothing broken He can't remake
If you long for hope when you're afraid
Oh look at the sparrow
Look at the sparrow
If He can hold the world He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh even the sparrow
Knows He holds tomorrow
Even the sparrow knows
He holds tomorrow

Saturdays are for Cleaning

After years of extracurricular sports and activities eating up my weekends, I am finding that as of lately that I have actually reached a point where I have at least part, but often the whole day, to myself. Kiandra often works in the morning until late afternoon. Kezia has crew from 10-2 and can drive herself and today she worked at 3:00 so she was barely home before she left again. Kaden has been working most Saturdays and today worked a full day from 9-5. Saturdays have become my day to grocery shop, meal plan, and get stuff done around the house.

Even though we have done some major clutter busting during the last few years, I know there are still pockets of clutter that I'd like to go through. We also have tons of renovation "junk" that is sitting around waiting to be dealt with. When this popped up in my feed I thought it might just be the motivation that I need to tackle those areas:

I've started this challenge a few times but I'm not sure if I've actually made it all the way through. *Maybe* this year will be different??? Either way, I will be happy to see some unused stuff exit my house which will make it easier to keep clean on Saturdays. :)

Preparing to Win!

It was Kezia's last day of her last high school spirit week today. They went into the day in the lead and were hoping to end the week with a win. Two years ago, Kiandra's grade 12 class lost on the final day and it was a big upset and the Grade 12 class took it really hard. Many years ago, Conrad's grade 12 class at this same school also didn't pull off a Grade 12 win either (I can't honestly remember if my Grade 12 year won??) Conrad snapped me this picture this morning:

and ....they lost. :( The Grade 11 class took the title 2 years ago from Kiandra's grade 12 class and again the Grade 11 class did the same this year.

Kaden's hockey team had their last regular game of the season. They were sitting in the #1 spot going into the game and a win or a tie would secure that spot going into playoffs...

They started with 2 quick goals and then another! The other team snuck in a goal at the end of the first. In the second period, Kaden's team and the other team both scored another goal to make it 4-2.

They kept it scoreless in the third to win 4-2 and stay in the #1 position going into playoffs.

Kaden was knocked down late in the third but thankfully was not injured too badly and was able to return to the ice quickly. I worry about Kaden playing this team and it's likely they'll play them again in the finals. I just hope no one gets hurt.....

Thursday 13

13 things I did today:

1. Didn't let the boy convince me that he should stay home from school for being sick.

2. Rode to school in silence.

3. Reminded the boy to take his Euphonium out of the van when I dropped him off at school.

4. Had a full class of students for the first day in a LONG time....and then one left for the afternoon...

5. Ate the lunch I packed yesterday but didn't eat because I forgot it was hot lunch yesterday so I enjoyed it today.

6. Realized the battery for my camera was almost dead.

7. Borrowed my friend Sheri's camera.

8. Drove to the Grade 7 and 8 basketball game at different school to take pictures for yearbook.

9. Came home to this in the crockpot because I threw it in while trying to prod the boy to get ready for school.

10. Ate supper with Conrad, Kaden, and Kezia because Kiandra had "small group bonding with her youth girls and had taken them to Festival for the evening.

11. Saw Conrad and Kaden leave for floor hockey at 8:30 (so much for being sick ;)

12. Made these as a surprise for Kaden's team's last regular season game tomorrow:

13. Watched the two "This is Us" shows that were PVR'd and waiting to be watched.

all in a day...

Some days it seems like I have nothing much going on and other days there are so many things I could post about...

Today was our 100th day of grade 1 AND it was a day to think about standing up against bullying by wearing pink shirts. (More info here)

and then not only was it a busy day of teaching, today was the day that a filming crew came into my classroom! They came to film my students for a video that will be used to educate teachers about ways to use a new children's book in their classrooms to introduce the delicate subject of residential schools to young children. "When We Were Alone" is written by a school parent and I have taught 4 of his five children during my teaching career. (I have one more to go to complete the set!) He came to do a question and answer session with me and it was cool to be able to have him choose our class to do this with. I can't wait to see what the producer ends up choosing to include in the video...I hope I don't ramble or talk with my hands too much!!

and then in the evening, Kaden's band performed at a Festival and I came along to watch them. Kaden is not taking band next year (at least not at this point) and so this could be one of the last times I have to accompany him to a performance.

They did well and won a trophy for performance excellence!

Transformation Tuesday

We're finally at the finishing touches for our house reno that started in November. Here is what our ensuite looked like then:

and this is what it looks like now:

I painted, Conrad installed the new flooring, new cabinets, new vanity, sink, and faucet. I bought the new garbage can, mirror, and toilet paper holder. We both have our skills. :)

Before:

After:
 View of the sink before:
and today:
 And one more before:
and now it looks like this:

I'd still like to add some hooks but I haven't done that yet. I guess there are always finishing touches to complete......

Fri-Yay!

My friend Janice asked me this week if I'd like to join her on a quick overnight trip to the States....ummm yes!

So I ducked out of school at 2:55 (my students had a specialty class at the end of the day) and met my girls and Janice at a gas station along the way and then we were off.

We ate supper at Pizza Ranch,
shopped at Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Target,
and even went in the hot tub for awhile.

We were so busy catching up that I have absolutely no photos from today's adventures....I guess that's ok....sometimes it's good to be in the moment instead of trying to capture it...

Storybook/Superhero Dress up day

Today was storybook dress up day but since our theme is "Superheroes of the Justice League of Readers" we also offered the choice of dressing like a superhero. We had all kinds of costumes today!

Waldo, Gerald, Wonderful Word Woman, Captain Vowels,

and this made my heart melt. I have twins in my Grade 1 classroom family this year and they arrived with buns in their hair, black tunics and pants, circle scarves and boots...they dressed up like me! I gave them two of my ID badges to complete their look....

I teach...what's your super power?
