Buckle Up....Here we go again....

Someone passed their written beginners test this evening!!

I let him drive around the parking lot after we picked up his official learner's license from the insurance office.

August 29 Kaden can take his full license road test. That seems awfully soon!

Work Christmas Party

Conrad's work had its party this evening. Kaden was invited to come with a guest since he works there too but he had hockey.

The food was good:

bread and oil and vinegar dip-yum
ricotta gnocchi with pumpkin and walnuts and a berry sauce with veggies-yum
Conrad had veal with peppercorns
The venue was so fun (converted train car) and decorated so nicely:

and we had a lovely time.

First Sunday of Advent

Our pastor spoke on Revelation 21 today and this part of verse 5 stood out for me "....Behold, I am making all things new..." What a hope we have in all our brokenness that God can make all things new.

Kaden is still able to put in a few hours working with Conrad on Saturdays...Seems like Conrad is enjoying the extra help around the store....

This is the volleyball season that just won't end. After securing a wild card spot after their Bronze medal last week and a win on Monday, Kaden's team was off to Provincials!

Kaden missed all 3 games yesterday due to a field trip and driver's ed (and likely a good idea since his head injury on Saturday) but they won 2 and lost 1. Today's win would mean they would advance again.

Conrad was able to go and watch them game this afternoon because he had taken a day off to work on the flooring. Unfortunately the team lost 3 close sets in a row and so, apparently, volleyball is, in fact, actually over for this season....

Watching from the sidelines

Although Kaden hasn't had any symptoms since from his injury on Saturday, the doctor did encourage him to avoid all contact sports for 7-10 days. Tonight his team was playing and Kaden watched with me from the stands:

It was another win for his team!

It's been quite the season for his team so far...

7 Sisters

Kiandra and Kezia and their 5 friends have been growing their YouTube and Instagram following by posting photos and videos. They've been trying to post a new video each Wednesday and this week's video was filmed in Best Buy.

I found this on my computer when I got home from school:

You can check out their video here:

and they'd love to have you subscribe to their channel or their instagram feed here or like their Facebook page here. I'm so thankful for my girls' friends and the fun they have together.

Another Winter

One of my teacher peeps has a family tradition that every year on the first snow fall they go out to eat at A & W. Another Winter.

Today, was one of those kinds of LONG days at school. I had yearbook from 3:30-5:00 and then Kaden had driver's ed from 4-6 and volleyball practice from 7-9. I knew Conrad had likely had cereal for supper as the girls were working and so Kaden and I used a coupon to celebrate Another Winter and the first snow fall by also eating at A&W today on the day of the first snow fall this year.

As much as I've longed for my evenings back after this terribly LONG volleyball season, I have enjoyed moments like this with Kaden. I love that we ride to and from school together each day. I love that I can hear about his day in person. I love this time with my son.

new car!

Kiandra's been thinking about getting a car for a little while. Conrad has taken her out a few times and they've looked at some old cars and they also checked out some new cars as well. Since Conrad's track record for used cars has not been that great, it has been hard for him to recommend Kiandra getting a car that could break down as soon as she buys it. While there are certainly disadvantages for getting a new car (depreciation, cost, loan, etc.) Conrad and Kiandra decided that a new car might just be the way to go. Over the last month, they worked to negotiate a pretty sweet deal with 0% financing on this new 2016 Nissan's one of the cheapest new cars you can get. ;) Kiandra did put down a down payment but was able to do the deal all by herself without a co-signer. (We still don't know what we are going to do with our house and didn't want to add any extra "debt" to our names). The new car will be, or should be, reliable and have practically no maintenance. The loan payments are 0% and she can pay off the loan with no penalty. Having this loan paid off will certainly boost her credit if and when she decides to buy a house in the future. This is something that wouldn't happen if she bought a used car with cash. It's hard to know what the best choice is going to be in the long run but since everything finally came together in the last few weeks....

Today Kiandra took custody of her new car! Conrad was working but the rest of us came with Kiandra to the dealership to pick it up.
as I took these photos, I kept thinking "How can babies buy cars?!" Kiandra has grown up so fast!
On the show room floor:
With her sales guy:
Then the sales guy asked for a group photo:
Then he drove it out for her and she got in and Kezia and Kaden argued who would ride shot gun:
and then my kids drove off and I was left alone to drive home...

Crazy-ness. How in the world did I become the Mom of a child old enough to buy a new car on her own?!

Sermon Notes

I've been enjoying taking sermon notes in my Journaling Bible. They aren't as decorated or "scrapbooky" as some of the ones on Pinterest but it's been very good for me to focus on the message of the sermon by making notes and highlighting key points.

Not in the plan...

The plan was to drop Kiandra at her WSI course, stop for Starbucks (one of the ways I can "buy" a photo with Kaden ;)
Go to his hockey game, stop for some errands, and then head home to do some painting and other work on the house.

Instead....right after I snapped this picture...Kaden was hit (on purpose) and knocked down to the ice and he was down for quite awhile. It was a scary moment to watch him lying there and infuriating as I watched the other team laugh and cheer as Kaden was lying there. He made it to the bench but on the next shift was brought to the dressing room to be examined by a mom from the team. She recommended a visit to the ER. So off we went....

After a few hours, Kaden was checked and released and told no contact sports for 10 days or 10 days after symptoms of headaches or dizziness disappear.

So, it was a bit of a different afternoon for us. It was nice to here there were no other injuries as the game got rougher and rougher and that Kaden's team pulled off a win against this strong team.

Around the house...

Conrad took the day off work to get some work done around the house instead. Kezia had a day off and so he had a helper to put all the nails down in the proboard:

Then a skim layer went over our old flooring so the pattern won't eventually bleed through onto the new flooring. I'm thankful Conrad has some flooring experience because he knows this kind of stuff.

and then in the early evening we decided to put a formal offer on that house we've been eyeing up this week:

If we get this house, we will barely finish these renovations in our current house before we begin on the next one....

Errand Day

Conrad and Kiandra spent the day doing errands today:

They dropped Kezia off at school
Bought the flooring for the main floor
Ordered new cabinet doors for the kitchen
Looked at the house that we looked at on Tuesday again

Then Kiandra went to work and Kezia helped Conrad pull out the carpet and get it ready for the new flooring...

When I got home from Driver's Ed tonight...the livingroom looked like this:

Kaden's volleyball team played for Bronze today. They won the first set 25-15.
Lost the second set 25-23.
Lost the third set 25-22 and then won the fourth set 26-24!
Then it was off to set five which is supposed to be until 15 points but you play until you win by 2 points. The set was back and forth until Kaden's team actually pulled out an 18-16 win agains the other team to win the Bronze place title!
Kaden got a medal:
and, as captain, got to collect the plaque for the team:

It was an intense game! Kaden told me this would "for sure" be the last game but I overheard some of the parents talking and it sounds like this win might mean they are eligible for a "wild card" spot in Provincials.....
