Halloween 2016

The kids are growing up and the excitement over costumes is not as big as when they were younger. This year only Kezia dressed up and wore this to school:

She didn't even get a picture of her in the costume but I would imagine that she made a pretty good "Sadness".

Conrad and I handed out treats to the 11 or so kids who came by. I think the bad weather and lack of little kids on our street played a role in the slow night. It was a quiet evening but I was thankful for the lack of volleyball and/or hockey practice and the chance to come home early for a change!

Game 1!

The first game of the season for Kaden seems so late this year. Kaden is predicting a winning season this year and if tonight's game is any indication of the kind of year they are going to have then he just may be right!

The team came out looking pretty put together for only their first game.

Final score 9-3!

Saturdays are busy days...

It's been pretty busy lately where Conrad works. Today Kaden went in for a couple hours and Conrad sent me this 22 minutes before it was closing time.

I guess lots of people have been shopping lately...

Doesn't take much...

...to make teachers smile...

A practical inservice topic with time to discuss and put into practice:

Lunch in a restaurant and the tab paid:

Yum:
and a stop for drinks on the way back to school...also paid for...

It was a good day!

Errand Day!

Conrad and Kiandra had a few errands to run today. One of their stops was to check out some cars ....

Car shopping seems like a really grown up thing to do! This whole having an adult child thing is so unpredictable and who knows what kinds of things they will choose to do next.....

Ice Time!

Kaden joins his new hockey team for indoor practice this evening.

I got to drop off and Conrad picked Kaden up which means I got to go home in the daylight! I gave Kezia the van to get to girls club. Kiandra had some volunteer sessions at the pool for her WSI. We were all coming and going this evening....

Almost....

Today, Kaden decided to skip the 7:30-9:30 vollyeball practice because he was tired after a busy weekend away. I *thought* this would mean that I would get home in the daylight even after stopping for a hair cut for Kaden on the way home....
The hair cut was completed in the daylight...
...we even popped into a shoe store where Kade found a pair of runners on sale...

We were parked in the garage when Kaden realized he had left his jacket at the hair place! By the time we drove back to get it, it was dark out! I ALMOST made it home from school in the daylight...almost.

18

Our long time family friends' daughter turned 18 this week and we were invited over for cake to celebrate this evening.  It's hard to believe that slowly our kids are becoming adults when it doesn't feel like we should be old enough to have adult children!

Another strange thing was that with Kaden and Kezia still on their way back from the youth event and Kiandra working a long shift, Conrad and I were the only ones available to attend.

Our kids are growing up and moving in new directions....

Aerial Class

Today was the end of the 6 week aerial class that Kiandra and I signed up for:

It has been so much fun to do this with Kiandra and I am so glad she asked me to try it. I am not nearly as graceful...
...or flexible ;)

and I am not as quick as Kiandra either as she easily does everything that is asked of her.

But I am trying and learning and doing things I never thought that I could do. I have to say that I am pretty proud of that.

Today we had a bigger class and we had to share silks. One of the people in our class heard Kiandra call me "mom" and she looks surprised..."You're her Mom?!" she asked "Wow, that's so cool to be able to do this class together." and she was right--it is!

I think this might not be the end of our aerial class experiences....

Friday advertures

Kezia and Kaden were up early and are off to a youth conference 9 hours away...
I attended the provincial inservice day and learned some techy things in a session on coding:
I wasn't the only one excited for date night:
We went for wings:

Not slowing him down...

...Kaden (and Kezia) got their second dose of the booster they needed to go to Mexico. He was a bit concerned that he would be too sore for the rest of the day.

However, later that day he played volleyball....and they won

and he capped off the night by going to floor hockey with Conrad and scoring a goal! (Conrad got 5)

Day and Night pattern art

One of my favourite (complicated!) art projects!

The directions:

I prepare for this art activity by sectioning off two 11X17 sheets into strips. I label the bottom of one sheet with even numbers and other other with odd numbers. Have students paint a "day" picture on the even numbers and a "night" picture on the odd numbers. Allow to dry overnight. Have students cut strip labelled "1" and glue to two 11x17 sheets glued together to form a long narrow sheet. Then students will cut the strip labelled "2"and glue it beside the first strip about half a cm from the previous strip. Continue cutting and then gluing each strip in numerical order until all are used. Fold long finished pattern like a fan. When you stand it up, or staple to a bulletin board the "day" picture can be seen from one angle and the "night" picture from the other. I use this lesson to connect to our math unit on patterns, to reinforce number patterns in even and odd numbers, and number order. We have a chance to practice our painting skills, our listening and following directions skills, and our fine motor skills with the cutting practice. It also fits with our Christian Ed curriculum when we learn about creation of day and night Genesis 1:1, 3-5

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day."

Win in 5!

It was another volleyball game tonight after yearbook....

Kaden's team won the first set, then lost the next, then won the third...
then lost the 4th...
and then came out with a narrow win in the 5th.

Date night with Kezia

It's not often that Kezia and I get some one on one time but tonight was one of those nights. I actually left the school just before 4 today to meet Kezia at Ikea.

She had been watching my nephew after dropping my SIL off at the airport. We decided to go to the Olive Garden for supper:
where we ate pasta:
and then attended a screening of the Hillsong movie.

Then we still ended up waiting for a while to pick up Kaden from his volleyball practice!
