Volleyball Tournament

Kaden's team had a tournament that started today. He had a game at 1:00. 3:30. and 5:00 and I was able to make it to watch the 5:00 game. They won both sets!
I *thought* the 5:00 game was the last game of the day and thought for the first time in weeks that volleyball wouldn't keep me out of the house until after 10:00pm
Nope. A few teammates and parents went to Subway to wait it out until the next game....which was at 8:30.

They won both sets and start again tomorrow at 9:00am...of course it would have to be the early game!

Teacher Life

One good thing about staying at school until 9:30pm most days is that I can go through and organize areas of my classroom that have been neglected for too long.

Before:

After:

I texted Conrad a wish list for my Thanksgiving block and Nativity Set projects coming up and since he had some time before picking Kezia up from Kid's club then he got started right away:

and before I got home, I got this:

There seems to always be a school project on the go!

Volleyball

It was a quick 3 sets for the win today!
Kaden and his team played very well!
They finished all 3 sets in about 30 minutes!
I didn't have to watch the game on the sidelines by myself today. Kaden's girlfriend met me at school after yearbook and then we drove out and met Kaden at the game. It was kind of nice to have some company on the sidelines...

Hit

So, I was still not feeling the greatest. Conrad was short handed at work because 2 of the 4 guys were away and I got a call from Kaden's school that Kaden was hit in the head with a softball and that he needed to be picked up and checked out.

I wasn't easy for me to leave because we already had a few subs in the building. Conrad couldn't really leave the other guy alone for a long time. Thankfully, Kiandra had the day off and came to the rescue. She took him to the clinic...
...waited with him...

and went with him to see the doctor.

Kaden had a bit of headache but not nearly the same symptoms as his concussion this last Spring. The doctor told him to just keep watch and no sports for 24 hours.

When I texted to say I was coming home, Kiandra told me they were at the mall...so I thought Kaden must be feeling pretty good. He didn't seem to be any worse for wear and even helped Kiandra make supper:

Looks like he may have volleyball this week after all.....

Souvenir

Kezia brought home some gifts for each of us from Ottawa and this was my gift:
and a piece of maple fudge that may have been one of the only things I ate today.

Kezia comes home!

Our traveller returned from Ottawa today! What a great week she had and so many experiences. Here were her snaps from before her departure:

Thankfully, because I wasn't feeling well, Conrad was able to pick her up from the airport when she arrived:

So good to have the whole fam back under the same roof!

First game of the season!

It was the first game for the JV boys today and Conrad and Kiandra were also able to come and watch...

They worked hard but lost 3 sets to 1.

Good things

It's volleyball season and that means many late nights at school because of Kaden's practices. There are so many people that say they can't imagine staying at school until 7:30 (or sometimes 9:30!) but there are so many good things about staying that late....

1. My classroom looks amazing:

2. Projects are planned, art is uploaded to artsonia.com,  and all my prep is done when I leave.

3. I teach at a school that lets me stay late. Some teachers are kicked out early but I have my own alarm code to come and go as I please. Instead of just killing time and waiting for Kaden then I can get stuff done.

4. Sometimes, Kaden comes to my classroom between school and practice and we get to hang out. How much better does it get to hang with your teen son??

5. The season is short. As in the volleyball season...and high school season in general. One day I will be able to leave when I want to and I will miss having this time.

Good things: volleyball - a sport my son enjoys, prep time - there's never enough of that, time with my son - I will take any that I can get.

Grade 9 Honours!

Kaden's high school had an awards ceremony this afternoon and although I had to miss it because it started at 2:30 he was pretty eager to show me his honours award when he got to my school. So proud of the effort he put in during his grade 9 year and hoping he continues his efforts this year too.
