Jazz Concert Night

Tonight was Kaden's Jazz Concert. Knowing that Kaden would be on stage near the beginning and the band concert was at Kaden's school which is really far from Conrad's work, Conrad chose to miss tonight's concert and I was on my own to watch it.
The bands did a great job and as usual, Kaden's band teacher had a few surprises to make the evening interesting.

Band concerts aren't really my favourite thing in the world but I just have to remind myself that this stage too will end before I know it.

When you train them right...

One of the things that I have really appreciated about having Kiandra home again is that she is an amazing cook. I knew that Kiandra was working in the evening and that with her leaving for work at 4:30 she would not be home to start something. However, I was blown away to get a text from Kiandra that she had supper planned and was going to set out instructions for Kezia to bake it and have it ready for supper. Here's what was in the oven when Kaden and I walked in the door this evening:
Homemade quiche...mini tart shells AND crustless and seasoned hashbrowns! Amazing. My kids rock.

Faspa and Family Time

It was a fresh pretzel kind of day:

and we ate them as a family of 5 watching one of our favourite shows! We were able to watch the last few episodes and the finale together.

Sometimes you just need to ditch the list

The to-do list was long for today. June is just ahead and it always comes with lots of extra things. I'm also in the midst of planning a little something for Conrad for our anniversary which is taking a bit of time and energy too. However, when Kezia asked if I was busy or if I could come with her to try out her favourite bakery's "pink day" to promote awareness for Breast Cancer research I ditched my list and went with her. She even bought me a macaroon for coming with her. (It was sour cherry blaster and it was delicious!)
After the stop  at the bakery, we stopped at a few thrift stores to find Kezia some things to wear for her mission trip to Mexico.

It was nice to hang with Kezia today and I was still able to cross almost all the things off my list even though I started much later than I had planned.

Concert Band Night

It was Concert night for Kaden's school and so we went for supper (Kezia had soccer) and the restaurant we ate at is owned by one of our school families and their serving sizes are HUGE!
The Concert was good and the band teacher does his best to throw in some unexpected things just to keep things interesting.

After his Grade 9 Concert Band set:

We actually left the band concert after the Grade 10 set which allowed us to meet up with Kezia just as her game ended. Then we went out for ice cream:

My friend Sara started with Epicure and I hosted one of her first tasting nights. Here is the menu I used and some pictures of the treats that I made.

In the garden

To finish off the nice weekend, Kiandra and I filled in the flower beds. Here are some before and after shots:

AFTER: lettuce, oregano, basil, rosemary, chives,
AFTER: no more rotting wood and nice purple flowers:

Pizza and a Swim

Kiandra and I went out for pizza after church

Then we went swimming as Kiandra has signed up for a course in a few weeks to get one step closer to her life guard certificate. We found out later that the others had gone swimming too. ;)

I love Not Camping

It's May Long weekend and these 3 are heading out for a camping trip. It might be the nicest long weekend we've had in a long time...
and these 2 are staying behind and not really sorry they are missing out on the camping. :)

Our first idea was to go back to the place we went to last year and have a games night
and eat some delicious snacks:

We stayed for over 3 1/2 hours and played 5 games including Ticket to Ride Europe:

This game recommended by the game host:

and a game called Crazy Chicken also recommended. We liked this Camel up game:

and we squeezed in the game right before our time ran out because of another reservation.

Then we went out for froyo:

And we got some snap updates from Conrad about their adventures:

I love not camping!
