After creating Kezia's resume  on November 19 she handed it in the very next day. Last Friday, she got the call to come for an interview today. I thought the interview was at 4:30 so I texted her some well wishes and here is our conversation:

So now we have two girls working!

Bragging Rights on the line..... again!

Kaden played another friend of his this afternoon:

The girls came to "watch":

but the score wasn't nearly as favourable as Friday's game and Kaden's team lost 3-2.

Conrad made sure to snap chat the game:

It's hard to believe how little snow there was on the ground as we were leaving:

In the evening we enjoyed a great time with friends and food at a Grey Cup party:

Something new

For the first time ever, we decided to get a real tree. Ikea is offering a $20 gift card when you buy a $20 tree and since I still have a gift card from my students from last year it was an even better deal. The girls helped pick out a good one:

It didn't look too big until we got it home:

and Conrad trimmed it and set it up:

Princeton thought it was his new water dish:

Bragging Rights were on the line...

It was a good night for youth to be cancelled because Kaden was playing his friend, Justin, from church's team this evening. Trash talk went back and forth and Kaden's friend Steven--who used to play with Justin--came out to watch the show down:

Kaden's team started the game strong with 2 goals in the first 39 seconds!

Justin's team scored 2 goals and then Kaden's team scored 2 more.

Kaden tried really hard to get a goal and had about 5 really good shots but couldn't make it into the net for a goal.

Final Score?
4-2 for Kaden's team and bragging rights until the next game against them. ;)

Thursday 13

Thirteen things I'm thankful for:

1. Sleeping in and deciding to follow the advice to stay home and rest instead of teaching all day still not feeling well.

2. Conrad and Kezia swinging by to see if our phone company would match a Black Friday deal I got in an email...and finding out that we could upgrade our iPhone 4 phones to iPhone 6 phones for $39.99.

3. Having the chance to add some apps and changing some settings before heading to school for a night of parent/teacher interviews.

4. Unlimited storage on yahoo mail ;)

5. Finding out that my grade 1 friends were in great hands while I was sick. I was so blessed by my friend who subbed today.

6. She helped get all the grade 1 cards ready to sell AND

7. She made sure my classroom was parent/teacher interview ready and so neat and tidy.

8. My awesome husband dropped off this as a surprise:

9. By interview number 3 (of 16!) I started to feel better!

10. All of my interviews went way better than expected and all parents agreed what I wrote on the report card was accurate and totally described their child.

11. The full spread of food that our office staff prepared for us in the staff room.

12. My appetite had returned so I could enjoy #11.

13. Again my classroom parents blessed me with all the books on my book fair wish list:

Cards for Sale

Our school always chooses a Christmas project and this year we are raising money to support Syrian refugees. The grade 4&5 classes are hosting a back sale during parent/teacher interviews tomorrow and Friday. Our class is making cards and we will try and sell some during interview times as well....nothing like leaving it until today to get these ready...

Life of a Cat

Today, as I tried to rest and feel better, I got to experience the life of a cat...

I lay around in bed all day

I slept

Too bad I was too sick to really enjoy it!

Not me Monday

I did not get sick very suddenly this afternoon at school.
I definitely did not pray that I would make it until last recess
and I certainly did not head to the office immediately after the bell rang.
I did not look sick enough that the principal would take one look at me and then tell me to just go home and he would make sure my class was covered.
I did not pull Kaden out of school half an hour early
and I did not have this bucket right beside me all the way home:

I did not crawl into bed immediately after getting home. Nope not me.
I did not have to miss Conrad's work party.
I most certainly did not expect to sleep it off and did not plan a single thing in case I didn't and would have to make a sub plan.
I did not have to call my principal in the evening and ask for a sub for Tuesday.
Nope not me. I definitely was not scrambling trying to think of what I could possibly plan from home to get to my sub for the next day. I am always on top of my sub folder and have a ton of work ready to go in case this happens.
I did not sleep the rest of the evening and the whole night too.
I am not sick, no not me!

(I am also NOT back dating this post now that I am finally feeling better!)

Day Trip!

My friend Janice asked if I would be interested in heading down to the States with her for a little shopping and a meal at Pizza Ranch....ummm yes!

It was a great day of laughing, shopping, and catching up. Here's what I returned with:

Thanks Janice for the great day!

Not on the lesson plan!

Every year I make and publish a Grade 1 book with my students based on an author and their work. This year our book is based on Tedd Arnold's Fly Guy series. I found a step-by-step how to draw "Fly Guy" tutorial (here) and we used it to draw Fly Guy. We are now in the final stages to get ready for our book and so I asked them to restart if they made a mistake instead of erasing to keep the picture looking nice for our book....and most of the turned out like this:

But... as I looked around at the half finished drawings that littered the floor and the tables in my classroom I suddenly realized that having these end up in the open recycling bin might raise some eye brows:

*gasp!* Thankfully I think I was the only one that noticed but my teacher peeps had a good laugh with me!

Resume for Kezia

I had planned on staying late at school after today's staff meeting to finish my report card edits and typos and get my envelopes ready for tomorrow's report card day. It turned out to be a little later than expected when Kezia texted and asked if I would help her create a resume. Someone from the restaurant where Kiandra is working is giving her 2 week notice and Kezia would love to take her spot.

After finding a free funky template for Kiandra's resume a few months ago, I searched out a few to use for Kezia but didn't find any that seemed to work. After wasting too much time on that I finally settled and bought this one on etsy:

It worked perfectly and even came with a matching cover letter template which I was also able to use. I had so much fun creating Kiandra's and I'm glad Kezia let me take a shot at hers too. We will see if this resume will land Kezia a job??

Here it comes...

After our "date night" at the gas station (we now have about an hour together between when I drop Kaden off at hockey/Conrad gets off work and when Kezia has to be picked up after volunteering at our church's Kids Club/Kaden's practice ends) this was the view after Conrad and I filled up our vehicles:

and this was the view of the back yard after Conrad picked up Kiandra from her night class:

It's coming...
(The only thing that I can find good about this is that Kezia's three soccer friends have been hosting students from Spain for the last 3 months and they have been wanting to experience snow and they leave tomorrow. At least they will have a little bit of a peek at what snow looks like before they leave.)

Not a winning night for the Warriors...

Kaden's team may have gone into today's game with a bit too much confidence after yesterday's 3-2 victory.

Today's game ended with a 9-3 final score. :(
