Last day.

Last day.
Last day of the 2014-2015 school year.
Last high school report card day for Kiandra.
Last day of classes with my 6th class of Grade 1 friends.
Last day of school with Kaden as a student at this school.
Last day....but notes like this helped:

I think I did pretty good. I did cry...but that's nothing new. How could I not when a child arrived at school and promptly gave me a package of Kleenex? How could I not cry when I received many nice cards and words from my students? I could I not cry when they blew me away and got me a new lens for my camera? Last days are hard.

I did, however, enjoy my last day and I didn't even get too upset when the stinking attendance thing had a few glitches to get sorted out. Kiandra had decided to come with us today and while I worked on cume files and attendance, she laminated and sorted books and started to get me ready for Fall. She is a blessing. Kaden went for a Slurpee and then hung around at school with his friend Jen until I was FINALLY finished. Just like that...another school year was over.

Relaxing Sunday

With Grade 1 DVDs burned, report card edits finished, and my classroom tidier than it has been at this point in the year ever, it was actually enjoyable to head out and not have a nagging to-do list hanging over my head this close to the end of the school year. Today was our church's outdoor service which was followed by a picnic potluck and activities. Kaden took a turn in the dunk tank:

Kiandra and I left a bit early so she could take and email her measurements to a director of a play she'll be in this summer. Then she had the huge task of drying out and packing up the equipment that she and her friend Chase had used yesterday for the soccer skills tournament that they ran.

Then we were off to my BILs and SILs place for supper with Conrad's parents, and Conrad's niece and her boys who are here from out of town. We met some of their new "pets":

and even got to feed them weeds:

We enjoyed a delicious BBQ supper and hung out in their awesome yard:

After a busy week of grads, I am so thankful for an extra few days to get DVDs burned and ready to give out on the last day of school on Tuesday. However, the file I had been collecting the photos that I wanted to add to the slide show was on my desk top at school so I ventured back to school this morning to get it. I logged in and then started to go through my remaining photos from field day to add to the collection before dragging it to my external hard drive....and then the thunder storm started...and then the power went out....and then I was logged out of the network!

for hours until it could be reset by the tech guy. I found some things to keep me busy in the meantime (cleaning my classroom, collecting my shredding, doing my year end clean up job, updating my reading levels book, marking in my writing continuum, and so on.) Finally, I was able to login and retrieve my files and then I could create my photo slide show at home. I added the slide show, the Grade 1 "Speak Life" music video, their French play, and their toothpaste commercials and started burning the DVDs. The first one takes about 20-25 minutes and then each one after that is about 8 minutes. To make 25 copies (24 +1 for me!) it took quite awhile!

I'm so thankful for a few extra days to get this done.

Field Day!

What a beautiful day it was today...perfect weather! The middle school students were in charge of all of the stations for the Elementary kids. The little ones had to complete 5 activities and then they could "cash" in at the Skittles bank to get 5 skittles. That might be their favourite activity!

The field was hopping with activities and everyone seemed to be having a great time even in the heat.

Kaden and his friend found a nice shady spot to set up the potato sack race station that they were in charge of hosting. Between groups of students they could sprawl out and cool off and that's where I tried to catch them on camera. It seems he is teaching Jen how to avoid the paparazzi mom!

They day ended and for 3 of my students, today was their last day of grade 1. We actually go right until June 30 but many families are starting the break early. I received this lovely bouquet of flowers from one of the students who finished her year today.

friend 2: My Grandma lives underground (pause)

friend 2: She's dead.

Report Card writing helper

I'm trying to get all my reports written this weekend so that I can be ready to enjoy Monday's festivities. I spread out all my stuff and soon I had a helper joining me. He was actually all curled up but when I grabbed my camera he stood up and turned his head because he was embarrased, lol!

Thankful for Friday

Kiandra decided to give up another free day to come to my classroom (although it's hard not too when you get treated like a celebrity by the Grade 1 friends!) She even got this picture:
To thank Kiandra for all of the help she's been over the last two days, I treated her to a pedicure after school:

In the evening, Kezia had a soccer game. Kiandra and Kezia's friend Katrine came to watch and the rain held off for the duration of the game.

and it will only get crazier next week!

Thursday 13

13 Awesome things:

1. Kiandra changing into this shirt and saying "Look Mom! We're twins!" (The colour looks closer in real life!)

2. Kiandra choosing to spend her first day without classes in my classroom.

3. Kiandra stuffing and organizing ALL of my Grade 1 portfolios for the end of the year:

4. Shopping (and finding) for new dress clothes and shoes for Conrad for "Grad Week" next week.

5. Kiandra finding (and fitting!) these kids light up velcro shoes and then coming around the corner saying..."look Mom...I'm ready for university!"

6. Family supper at Costco ;)

8. Heading off to what we thought could be Kaden's last ball hockey game of the season:

9. Watching Kaden play forward centre:

10. Kaden assisting the tying goal in the second half of the game!

11. Heading into overtime...

12. Kaden assisting the winning goal of the game!!
