On the road again...

...crazy-ness! Today Kezia passed her written test and became road ready! I took her last night to fill up the paperwork and get her temporary license.

and she posed for some pictures when we got home:

After supper, we drove to our church's parking lot to do a few laps. By the time we got there it was getting dark.

She did a few laps and then did a pretty good parking job on her first attempt:

She did so well we actually went on a few side streets for about 15 minutes before we finally went home. I can't believe we have two kids on the road now!

Hello Monday.
Hello early alarm after a busy weekend.
Hello just 5 more minutes.

Hello fast day with Grade 1 friends.
Hello learning and teaching
Hello traffic jam in the never ending construction zone on the way home:

Hello hockey tryouts
Hello old teammates who didn't make the AA or AAA team
Hello cold rink

Hello large looking boys who seem so much bigger than just a few months ago
Hello drill after drill
Hello tiredness

Hello scoring!
Hello mom cheering from the sidelines.
Hello embarrassed giggle from cheering during a tryout.
Hello reluctant hockey mom.

Hello Monday!

Even the kitchen sink!

It was a successful weekend in friendships, spiritual renewal, and shopping:

I came home with lots of things on my to-buy list including shower taps, bathroom faucet, and a kitchen sink!

Friday is here!

It's been a busy week but today is Friday!

Today came with some surprises like this treat from a Grade 1 parent and perfect for these above seasonal temperatures we have been having:

Today was a day of sadness as we lowered our flag (again!) because of the loss of a school parent. (We've lost 3 current school parents, 2 past students' parents, and a staff member in the last 17 months--it's been emotional to see the flag at half mast so often lately)

Today was a day of adventure as I agreed at the last minute to attend our church's ladies retreat in the States. I rode down with new friends and didn't even know who I was sharing a room with until I got there. It was so good to connect with so many new ladies in our church.

Today was a day that came full of good heart messages and song lyrics that really touched me.

I'm so glad it's Friday!

Terry Fox Run

It was our annual Terry Fox event at our school and what a beautiful day for it! Kaden, again, had the chance to run with a group of students relay style from our other campus to ours. It takes about 2 hours to do and is a fun event for the runners. For the first year ever, I managed to see the runners run in (usually I have kids on a bathroom break before our run around the neighbourhood). It was so fun to greet the runners after their long distance run.

We had 7 people cut their hair for cancer patient wigs and we also collected toonies for Terry and we'll likely hear the total for that tomorrow before it is sent over to the Terry Fox foundation. It was a great event and the 27 degree temperature made it even better.

Good Things

18 students at the girls' high school up from just 3 students and an EA last year

a chance to pray around our flag with my Grade 1 friends:

a great day of learning on my no-prep day

a quick getaway after school to stop at the rental house

where Kaden mowed the grass:

And I painted the 2nd coat in the LAST room!!

Then we arrived home just in time to give Kiandra the van for the first Wednesday night Kids Club. Kezia met her there after babysitting.

I caught up on my missed run yesterday and ran 4 miles in (a slow) 48:32 minutes:

But 4 miles is enough to complete my 50 miles challenge that I began in July. I'm super pumped to have met that goal.

Maze Runner

Kaden was asking to see the new movie "Maze Runner" and so tonight Conrad and I took the night off from renos to see it with him. You never know when it won't be cool to go to a movie with your parents so we took advantage of the invitation. :)

Kaden thought this was hilarious:
two new movies were playing across the hall from each other and so the two signs read:
Where I Leave....If I Stay

6 for 6!

Last week, my blogger friend Heather posted a challenge on facebook to do the 30 day shred each day for 30 days.  She and her husband were looking for support and accountability. I joined in saying that instead of the shred, I would commit to running on the treadmill for 20 minutes each day. In part, to join in their challenge, in part to move that ticker on my sidebar to read my summer 50 mile goal, and in part because I know I should be more active. Today was the 6th day in a row that I have run. Twenty minutes usually takes me within a few points of 2 miles and so most days I crank the speed and try and get the distance to 2 miles which puts me at a time of just over 20 minutes. I actually can't believe that I have kept up for the last 6 days. Can I do it for the next 24? We'll see....

While I was painting, Conrad was putting up a shelf and installing doors:

He had installed the rec room flooring this week:

I finished the second coat in the bathroom and now it's ready for for Conrad to put down the flooring.

Conrad also put the flooring on the steps this week too:

He finished all the baseboards upstairs:

We're getting closer!
