Here and There and Everywhere

After school, we drove to a friend's house where Kaden completed his first, of two, babysitting practicums. He was excited and a bit nervous about caring for this cutie:

He was pretty excited after that he had been able to take care of Imogen and give Roberta some time to get her house ready for company that evening.

From babysitting, we went home for a quick supper before dropping Kaden off at youth. It was their official "Welcome to Youth" for the Grade 6 students and Kaden didn't want to miss it. We left the church and drove to Kiandra's Jazz Caberet. Unfortunately, they had underestimated the number of people that would be in attendance and so by the time we arrived there were no seats available in the auditorium. The plan was for Conrad to pick up Kezia to take her to soccer because he doesn't get to see her play and for me to stay behind and watch Kiandra but since there really wasn't any room, Kiandra told me I could go too. Since the concert was supposed to be quite long, I thought I would make it back in time to hear her but I missed her by about 5 minutes. She did look beautiful and was happy to not have to wear the traditional band concert for this performance:

Since it was raining (again!) the tournament organizers decided to have an evening of shoot out games instead of playing in the rain. You don't even know how glad I was to not have to do THAT again! Each team picked 5 shooters (Kezia was not among those chosen) and the score was determined by the number of shots that went in. Kezia's team managed to score 4 out of 5 and ended up with a final score of 4-2.
We drove Kezia to her friend's sleepover party and then went back to the high school to watch Kiandra but we had missed her. We did get to see the Vocal Jazz perform and Kiandra is really thinking of auditioning for this choir for next year. It is extremely hard to get in but she wants to try. We were still stuck in the doorway of the theatre and so after the singers were finished we were told by Kiandra that we could leave and pick her up later.

Conrad drove home to eat a late supper and I drove to pick up Kaden who ended up making plans to go to a friend's house for a sleepover...another wasted trip...and so I drove back to pick up Kiandra just as the concert ended. I can't believe the concert was from 7:00 until almost 10:30! That's a LONG concert....next year we'll know to come early and prepare to stay late!

So, I drove home with just one of my children and went to bed shortly after....it's exhausting going here....there....and everywhere. :)

Brace yourself

Brace yourself...for a day of rainy and wet weather with indoor recess

Brace yourself...for a soccer tournament game that is not cancelled

Brace yourself...for having to dig out your winter jacket at the end of May

Brace yourself...for a chance to try out your umbrella and boot ensemble that made the game slightly more bearable and much more fashionable

Brace yourself...for a sneaky goal that passed Kezia's goalie for a 1-0 final score for the game

Brace yourself... for the time when Kezia refused to take a good picture of the day she got braces and you had to settle for this one:

Choir Concert

Concert #2 this evening. Tonight was choir and wind ensemble and because Kiandra is in choir we were at the school again.

While we were at the concert, Kaden won both of his football games and Kezia had a great soccer practice. One more concert to go this week...

The Feast, The Shelf, The Concert

The Feast: Kezia's Grade 8 class held their Medieval Feast this afternoon complete with dining and entertainment. Kezia was allowed to bring a guest but unfortunately Conrad and I were both working and we could not join her. I was able to see her "entertainment" while my Grade 1 class was in German and I also was able to snap some pictures too before handing off my camera to Kezia's teacher to take some pictures too. They put on quite a spread:

Many students also dressed up for the occasion...Kezia chose to wear my old Grade 12 Grad dress for the afternoon. Also, Kezia used the dress up event to ditch her shoes...

After school, I got to see the project Kaden has been working so hard on...his wood shelf. He was eager to share that his class was one of the few classes to try out the burning tool to write their names on the piece.

This evening was the first of 3 concerts for Kiandra. Tonight was Grade 9 and Senior (Grade 10, 11, 12) Band. It was actually an enjoyable concert and we were amazed at the quality of the music they presented. There are many issues that I have with Kiandra's school but I have to say that the music program, and especially the teachers in it, are truly amazing and it shows in their students.

Kiandra knows me well enough to wait to take apart her instrument until after the token posed picture is taken. One end of the year concert down, 2 more to go!

First loss of the season

Kezia's team shot a goal in off of a corner kick late in the first half to make it 1-0 but shortly into the second half the other team made the exact same move to tie it up. In the last few minutes of the game the other team scored a really sweet goal to make it 2-1 as the final score.

It's going to be a busy week of soccer with a game today, a practice tomorrow and a 4 game tournament that starts on Wednesday. Good thing Kezia loves soccer...

One Heart Church Service

This morning, we walked to church. It was a service that involved over 80 city churches including our church. It was a way to worship together in a very powerful way. Previous "One Heart services have been held in January in our city's arena but today's service took place at our city's brand new football stadium. This church service was actually the very first event to be held in it which is pretty cool. We don't live too far from where the new stadium is and I've walked and biked the route often when I had classes at the University campus where the stadium is now located. This picture was snapped on route and you can see our destination in the background...if they ever do build the walking bridge that they have talked about for years...we'll be even closer!

It was great to be a part of the service and we ended up sitting in the same section as some of the people we knew and my friend Layne was even able to save us some seats to sit with them. My friend Sheri sang in the choir and it was a great time to worship together.

Kaden looks forward to visiting the stadium again soon to see his favourite football team play.

Extra! Extra!

It was an EXTRA busy Saturday around our house today. Conrad enjoyed a rare Saturday off today because of his ball hockey tournament. He (and Kaden) were out the door by 8:15 to be at the arena to play at 9:00.

Kiandra and Kezia had their friend Meguire over for the night and so I made waffles for breakfast when they woke up around 9:30. They beautified themselves and then I got a text to let me know that Conrad's team had secured another victory and the final score was 4-0.

Conrad and Kaden arrived home shortly after and drove Kezia out to a friend's place to film their French play and then arrived just in time to play the 1:00 game of the tournament. When Conrad arrived at the game, he got an EXTRA surprise when he discovered he had won one of the door prizes for the tournament:

Awesome!!

While Conrad and Kaden were at the game and Kezia was working on her French play, Kiandra, Meguire, my friend Janice and I went to an "EXTRAS" casting call for a movie based on the book "Heaven is For Real" which will be filmed this summer.

We arrived at 1:00 and it was scheduled to start at 1:30. We filled out our forms and then waited and waited.

We were called to a table and then asked a few questions. They seemed very interested in Kiandra but we will see what happens. After the table interview, we had our pictures taken by the photographer and then we were done.

On the way home, we learned that Conrad's team had tied their game 2-2 and we saw the picture of the prize Conrad had won. I drove Meguire home, dropped Janice off at my house where her car was waiting, and then went to pick up Kezia who was finished. Kiandra drove home and we were barely home for 10 minutes before Kezia was picked up for her evening babysitting job. Kiandra started her evening job at 5:30. Conrad texted me that they had won their 4:30 game with a final score of 5-3 and that they were playing an EXTRA game in the semi-finals at 6:30.

I joined them for the 6:30 game and snapped these pictures of my EXTRA tired (and EXTRA sore!) hubby as they tried EXTRA hard to stay in the game.

They couldn't quite do it and the game ended with a final score of 4-1 but played hard right to the end and ended up placing third in the tournament. Conrad said his team was not too disappointed about not making it right to the end because they were all sore and tired. Kaden had a great day with Conrad and I'm glad Conrad could enjoy his time playing ball hockey.

We picked up pizza for a late supper and then vegged on the couch for the rest of the evening. It was a packed and EXTRA busy day, but I love those kinds of days!

Same arena...different game

I was at one of the arenas that we frequented over the winter for Kaden's ice hockey this evening to watch Conrad participate in a ball hockey tournament. He regularly plays on Thursday evenings and for the second year in a row, he's been recruited to play with some of the guys for a tournament. I arrived half way through the game just in time to see Conrad score a goal. It was fun to cheer him on tonight. It reminded me of the many hours I spent stalking...err, I mean watching...him play on Wednesday nights when I was in Junior High. I was completely head over heels for him and watching him race around this evening reminded me of that. I'm thankful Conrad still has the chance to participate in something he loves to do. Not to mention that he rocks at ball hockey. Conrad scored a hat trick and assisted the other goal his team scored. The final score for this evening's game was 4-1.

I LOVE this guy! ^

Festival of the Arts

Our school hosted a Middle Years "Festival of the Arts" to celebrate achievements in Music and Art. Pieces were put on display and the Bands played and the Singers group performed as well. Kezia had a number of pieces on display this evening:

and was even invited to show off her talent as she painted in front of everyone as they toured the art exhibits. There were quite a few artists showing off their artistic talents and it was a great addition to the evening.

Kaden and Kezia performed with the Singers choir and Kaden was a part of the Grade 6 band. Their band has improved so significantly since the beginning of the year! Kaden even had a chance at the mic to introduce one of the songs.

A win, a win, a surprise, and a win

Wednesday evenings are our heavy sports nights with a double header flag football game for Kaden. His team won the first game and in Kaden's words, the score was "A LOT to Nothing" at the end of the game.

The second game was more of the same and ended in another win for Kaden's team. I watched the first part of the second game and then went to Kezia's soccer game a few blocks away (It doesn't always work out like that!)

The surprise was that Kiandra (who usually avoids all sporting events) must have been really bored at home this evening because she walked over to catch the last few minutes of Kaden's game and the end of Kezia's game as well.  She was making good use of my blanket which lives in the van year round for sports events.

Kezia's team played extremely well scoring the first goal of the game shortly after I arrived to watch. Kezia scored the second and final goal of the game moments later. Final score 2-0.
