Thursday 13

1. It was pajama day at school

2. I had many comment on my footed owl pajamas and they were a big hit with my Grade 1 friends.

3. We ended the day (and I LOVE to read month!) by having all the students and staff meet in their family groups in the gym to read.

4. I took pictures of everyone reading for the yearbook.

 4. They announced the winning class for reading totals and it was Kezia's grade 8 class that won a BBQ cookout complete with s'mores and Mountian Dew.

5. Our school goal was met too and our principal will be wearing a cow suit for the day.

6. At the end of the day, Kaden learned that he would be filling the vacant position on the leadership team which he ran for back in October. (There was a revote this morning after the person who held the position left  our school).

7. There was a K-5 meeting after school.

8. Conrad finished putting up the ceiling track and starting wiring the pot lights.

9. Conrad and Kaden did flyers.

10. Kezia and I went to the Open House for High School *gasp*

11. Kiandra and some of the other musical cast mates were in costume mingling with the people who came out to the open house to promote their show.

12. I met someone I went to High School with whose son will be attending Grade 9 with Kezia.

13. After much thought, Kezia narrowed her elective choices and decided to make Art her first choice because she was very impressed with the Art room.

Her other choices included Foods/Family Studies/Sewing, then Drama, then French. (They pick 4 electives and then get 2 scheduled on their timetable in September)

And it's a win!

Kaden's hockey season could have ended this evening...and with only 3 wins all season, I was quite sure tonight's game would be the last. Kaden's team got the first goal of the game and then they held the other team back until 7 minutes left of the game when they tied it 1-1.

The game went into overtime and Kaden's team had shot after shot and could not get past their goalie. Finally, there was an opening and with 9:21 left on the clock, Kaden's team scored! They were so pumped.

So, they knocked out that team and move on to the next round. It's not over yet...

Date Night at the Symphony

It was date night last night. An unexpected date night. Kiandra's high school choir was a part of an evening at the symphony. They had 5 practices outside of school practices (Sundays and evenings) and they worked hard to present a wonderful evening of music.

Conrad and I had never been to the symphony before but we did enjoy date night. We were one of the last to arrive (parking was brutal!) and got front row.

But that didn't lend itself to good picture taking:

You can see Kiandra and her friend putting their heads together in the middle of this picture. I have to laugh that Kiandra can recognize the sound of my camera, lol!

After the show, I had Kiandra snap this picture of us because I thought the evening was a chance to wear my fun sparkle shoes again.

 Great job, Kiandra!

Waiting for Conrad to pick us up...the shoes are fun to wear but not so easy to walk on sidewalks full of snow!

Monday randomness

Last February 'jeans' Monday...and yes...these jeans were not as baggy on the first 'jeans' Monday in February. :)

Popping popcorn without the lid - so we can see it, hear it, smell it, touch it, and taste it. A great way to end our unit on the senses.

The ceiling framing begins...

Sunday, February 24, 2013

Kaden had his first playoff game this morning. He was super pumped and confident he'd score a goal...
...and he did!! He tied it up 1-1 in the beginning of the third period and only a few minutes after the other team scored the first goal. It's too bad that he also got an assist a little while later helping the other team secure and hold a 2-1 lead.

Kaden's team plays again on Wednesday night and if they lose, they are out.

Kiandra is also in "playoff" mode as her school choir prepares for a huge concert with the Symphony this week. They've been practicing with many other choirs in the city for this special event which will take place this week.

When I picked her up from her 3 hour practice (seriously, she has been living at school in the last few weeks!) she declared it a "slurpee day" and so I obliged.

What is cool about playoffs is that it signals the end of a hard working season and some moments  of peace on the horizon.

True or False (updated)

Take a guess...which of these are true and which of these are not:

1. Kezia had her first soccer playoff game at 8:00 in the morning.
True! Those early Saturday games are a doozy!

2. During the game there was a fist fight with hair pulling.
True! This was a first! They were punching and hitting and pulling each other's hair and needed to be separated by the refs and the coaches. Both girls were given a red card.

3. Kezia team tied the score in the last 5 seconds of the game.
True! Talk about a nail biter it was 1-0 and it looked hopeless until the other team got a hand ball in the crease and then there was a penalty shot that went the last 5 seconds of the game. Yikes!

4. Kezia forgot her cleats at the field.
True! My usually responsible girl must have dashed off in a hurry because we got an email shortly after we got home that they were in the custody of her coach.

5. Kezia went babysitting in the morning and I'm not sure when she'll be back.
True! She was picked up around 10:30 by my SIL's dad and she didn't get home until after 4:30pm Sunday afternoon.

6. I dropped Kiandra off at school.
True! For the last 2 months, Kiandra has been at school from 10-2 having musical practice. Next Saturday she'll likely be there from 10-10 or later!

7. I painted the entire rec room.
True! the last coat is done!

8. Kaden went to a birthday party that included being chauffeured by limo to a snow tubing adventure, laser tag, and a hotel with a pool.
True! Unbelievable but true!

9. I bought a dress for my October dress project.
True! and hopefully it still fits in October!

10. I was at school for 6 hours and only finished 1 report card.
True! Kaden's extravagant party was near the school and so I filled the time working on report cards. I finished all my attendance records and my ICT but only 1 full report card. I guess the false part was that I was only at school for about 4 hours, not 6.

11. Conrad finished the perimeter for the ceiling tile in the basement.
True! Woohoo...the basement is ... dare I say... almost complete!

Great job guess, Tiffany! :)

Counters and Painting

The counters we ordered on our Valentine's Day "date" arrived this week and they look awesome. A sink will go in the middle of the counter in the concessions area:

The bathroom is really coming together now too:

We had purchased a sink, but it was the last one and when we opened the box (which had obviously been taped up!) it was scratched and so we'll have to take it back and decide on a new one.

Conrad is putting on the second coat of white inside these boxes and then we'll do the final coat of the grey on the rec room walls.

It will be awesome when it is FINALLY done!

Thursday Thirteen

13 things I did today:

1. thought it was Wednesday (multiple times!). The holiday on Monday has be a day behind on what day I think it is.

2. participated in our staff "soup potluck" at lunch. I work with great people who sure know how to cook!

3. visited with my friend Roberta and her growing-up-too-fast baby who dropped by (with cake pops!) during lunch today.

4. counted up over 2700 minutes of reading as the week total for my Grade 1 class. Awesome.

5. Shared in Kezia and Kaden's joy when Conrad came to get them at 2:30. (This meant I would not have to rush out after the meeting to get Kaden to hockey for 5:20.

6. attended a staff meeting....and missed out on my favourite "German-and-gym-at-the-end-of-the-day" prep day. Man, I do love day 3, except on early dismissal day.

7. talked about protocol for when a school parent passes away. We are facing this unfortunate circumstance and it pains me.

8. remembered to print out poem of the week and t.w.a.s sheets for tomorrow (because tomorrow is Friday and not Thursday!)

9. picked up Kaden from hockey.

10. came home to supper that Kezia had made for everyone.

11. picked up Kiandra from her Optimist Fest concert thingy downtown.

12. dropped and picked up Kezia from her soccer practice.

13. thought about how awesome it was that Conrad painted the second coat in the basement and how good our new counters look as they wait to be installed.

Storybook Dress Up Day

One of the highlights ...well, at least for Grade 1 Friends...and their teacher ;) of our I LOVE to Read month is Storybook Dress Up day. Today, students and staff were invited to dress up as their favourite Book Character. I chose to be "Fern" from Charlotte's Web. I included a spider and a small pig to give students a hint as to who I was. Kaden decided at the very last minute to dress up like "Piggie" from the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems. Kaden let Kiandra dress him this morning in all pink- pink tights, pink plaid shorts, pink shirt, and even pink belt. He is a brave soul...and the only boy from his grade to dress up!

Kezia snapped this photo and wasn't dressed up as a Storybook character because her class was doing their Greek Olympics today and she was ready for that instead. Kiandra is still dressing up for spirit week at school and today was pajama day and so she left the house looking like this:

I love school dress up days!

Spirit Week

Did ya miss me?? I was having computer issues at home this weekend and could not post on this blog...only from the blogger app on my phone. I . Know. so. strange. Anyway, I think I fixed it and I've caught up on the last few days if you want to go back and check it. (That's just for you, Roberta!! I know how you miss daily posts, lol!!)

This week is spirit week at Kiandra's high school. Today was colour day. Grade 9 students wear yellow, Grade 10 students wear red, Grade 11 students wear green, and Grade 12 students wear blue. Kiandra found a tutu pattern on pinterest and made this to wear today:

of course, Goliath was impressed by her tutu making talent!

The funniest thing is that when I picked her up from musical practice, she was still wearing it AND she wore it to and from Synchro! Did she ever get the looks from people, lol!

Sunday Randomness

1. Kiandra drove to church and stopped at Tim Hortons to try and master the skill of using the drive thru.

2. Sunday school was a challenging discussion of what it means to go from a "fan" of Jesus to a "follower".

3. Our split services were connected by a video feed for the first time. Probably a good thing because both sanctuaries were very full.

4. The new Kid's Sunday School program hosted a lunch for all the families to share a bit of what was going on with the new program.

5. Kaden's hockey practice was cancelled because of rain and slippery road conditions -odd for February! (he wasn't planning to go anyway because we stayed for lunch.

6. We went to Conrad's parents place to visit with an Aunt and Uncle from out of town.

7. Kezia and Kaden went swimming in their pool.

8. We played games and Conrad's dad kept his lead almost the entire time.

9. We got home around 10:30 and then the Coke zero I consumed that evening prevented me from sleeping until almost 4 am!!

10. because of that, I was able to almost completely empty my PVR of Grey's Anatomy episodes!
