When Kiandra moved into the basement two summers ago, we promised we would paint her room. However, because that year we also tackled the upstairs bathroom (adding a jet tub! :) and I also decided to repaint the entire kitchen/dining area/hall (it's all basically one open room) her room was put on hold. Last year between Conrad's brother's wedding, a trip to Alberta and to Minneapolis, there was not enough time (or $$$) to begin her room and so again Kiandra was shafted. As this summer approached, we knew that this year we would have to paint our patient daughter's room. One of the other things that was holding us back was the fact that it is our eventual goal to build a walk in closet for her room which would include the window in laundry room. Presently her room doesn't have a window, but we have cut a door into her closet which leads to the laundry room right beside the window, giving her the necessary two ways out in case of a fire. Realizing that being on a poor student's budget, the closet will still have to wait, we decided to start painting her room anyway and leave the closet for now.
Kiandra is removing the wall paper border in her old dark teal room. She was so excited to begin her dream room.
And so the work begins.......
(I tried to line the photos up to show a contrast between the before and after and it just was not working for me!! So I just gave up, lol!)
This is Kiandra's chosen palate of green (The colour is a cross between Shrek and Kermit the Frog!) and purple (not quite the colour of Barney the Dinosaur!) although the purple almost looks blue in the photo! I painted her old brown bookcase green. We bought the dressers at Value Village for $20 (for the big one) and $7 for the smaller one. I painted them to match the colours of the duvet cover which we bought last year at IKEA. Kiandra is thrilled with the end result and I have to say that it is a pretty fun room! There are still a few finishing touches, like plug covers, putting up her shelves and hooks, and a bar/shelf for the closet, but she's been so patient so far that another week or so for those items will probably not be so bad!
